Analytical Model for the Load-Bearing Capacity Analysis of Winter Forest Roads: Experiment and Estimation

In northern forests, winter is the preferred time for logging operations, since, when wet soils freeze, their strength increases, which ensures a high load-bearing capacity of forest roads and reduces cost forestry work by increasing load on equipment, including driving through frozen lowlands. The present article analyzes loamy–sandy soil, which, at subzero temperatures, behaves like brittle material with sufficiently high, but limited, strength. Well-known models commonly use empirical parameters, correlations, numerical methods to estimate such materials. An analytical model full load–displacement curve would reduce number necessary calculations increase ability predict bearing roads. However, there are few these models. Such were developed, as rule, study stress–strain in concrete rocks, meaning that researchers have recalculate into stress displacement deformation, not always simple. This aimed theoretically justifying new quantifying assessing adequacy comparing it experimental data. To achieve this purpose, concepts fracture mechanics mathematical modeling used. was verified using data, examples determining peak provided.
